I keep my skills fresh, paid for a resume rewrite, network constantly, and still nothing after five months. The interviews I got went well and then they just stopped responding, which somehow hurts worse than a straight rejection. What else can I do?

I hate to say this but your experience is not unique right now. Anyone who’s looking for a job is dealing with this. And soon plenty of GP folks (and GP subsidiaries) will be dealing with this as well.
Most everyone in this group is worried about losing our jobs in a couple of weeks time.
This is unfortunately the nature of job searching right now. You aren't alone in this experience. A lot of contract jobs turn into full time positions if you haven't looked into those roles yet.
