Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

You know it's bad when folks are willing to take pay cuts just to get out the door

I keep seeing coworkers bail for jobs that pay way less. Nobody even tries to match their old salary anymore because things have become that miserable here. That's how low we have fallen.

I was about 3 years away from leaving on my own. Thankfully they laid me off as part of the VSP and let me leave with nearly $200K. It really was the best thing that could have happened to me.

But wouldn't it still make sense to hold out for the inevitable severance? I get that after tax it's not as much, but it's still a little chunk of change. I also get that some areas of the company are significantly worse than others, so even severance might not be worth waiting for. What goes up must come down, and I VZ is nearing it's landing at the bottom 🫤

I was laid off by Verizon and took a massive pay cut. It worked out fine because Verizon had already set me up for life financially.

Look around now it not going to get better. Sure VZ pays well but it makes more sense to move to another company with room for growth and get out of this rat race

Is the "different grass" you speak of @ap a coping mechanism?

@ap but I never asked for a dominatrix.

It's been a known fact that VZ pays well to 'beat you up'.....

Yes, the pay outside VZ is not comparable, but therein lies the trade-off - Having a life and mental health. The grass may not be greener, but it's different grass and a different shade of gray.

There’s frankly no more levers Verizon can pull to make more money other than cutting expenses. We used to charge for long distance calls now we have to compete with other carriers by scamming customers to get them over here with slightly lower prices up front.

@OP The doomsday messaging from Dan and the reduction in benefits and other ill treatment serves a purpose. The more people resign (with a pay increase or a pay cut), the less they'll have to lay off. This in turn reduces severance expenses and bad publicity.

People need to accept the reality that Dan is focused on the next quarter and the next year. The long term impact isn't his concern.
