Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Cengage - Sorry for those not at the top

Cengage continues to show its true colors and it just keeps getting worse... On May 26th an email went out to people leaders letting them know that employees that made a Transformative or Outstanding impact would receive an impact award (if they are not on the normal Incentive plan). This is typically a small bonus like 5%.

On June 2nd, HR emailed people leaders again saying our bad, that's not actually going to happen. This happening after many managers have already spoken to employees. and now Managers are having to break the news to their employees.

Now, for the people who are on the incentive plan with a 10% - 40% bonus, just need to get achieved (significant impact) for it to pay out. and it is still going to.

In other words, to the people that have a job profile not allowing them to be on the incentive plan but absolutely crushed it this year, I am sorry and unfortunately Cengage is giving you the middle finger and has no desire to walk back their walk back.

@14z Funny, do you think you will have a job longer than Cengage is in business? I doubt it. Cengage seems to be doing just fine even though you have declared the company as a complete failure. You are as d-mb as they come!

It is hard to believe that give moral in company is worst it has EVER been they would pull such a stunt a week before they would have been paid out. It is pretty clear at this point what they think of their workers. You can be sure the ET will be fat payouts.

@ef eff you. If bad people can’t get jobs, then why is the ET raking it in? I’m an awesome person in a cr-ppy situation. I do a great job, unlike trolls like you. I can complain as loud as I want about being underpaid and overworked.

A 5% bonus for documented high performers is pocket change to Cengage. This is worse than when Michael triumphantly said that we were getting a 6% bonus...and then followed that up with "for the 9 month fiscal year." So a 4% bonus for anyone who can do math. Cengage is a poverty wage organization.

@b0 IPS I wish your accurate corporate speak would make me smile as usual but everything is so bleak bleak bleak at Cengage right now. And we’re being told to feel grateful for the latest report. Credo!

And to trolls asking why don’t you just leave, easier said than done. Not everyone has that option and the job market is cr-p in general and in higher ed especially. It’s not like anyone WANTS to be here.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. 10+ years ago, someone messed up & calculated the targets wrong by leaving out an entire quarter. A lot of people who thought they hit were told in the final hour “whoops our bad. You’re not getting a bonus after all”

Making a positive impact on learners and educators should be reward enough. It has been shown that money is a poor motivational tool.

Working for an organization that values and properly allocates resources is reward enough for those motivated by ethnocentric values.
