How Long Does HR Keep Your Employment File After You Leave?

I am guessing 3 years since that’s when the statute of limitations on employment lawsuit cases runs out?

Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana stipulant laws require minimum 4 years of archiving after which the employee can request longer or request to pull all records to whatever destination they deem applicable -or- an intermediation can step in to handle all records if a common agreement cannot be reached in "reasonable" time frame. Note, the reasonable time will be decided by any number of people mostly depending on which of the above states the employee lives in or plans to relocate to within the first 2 years after work stoppage. Sorry for the rambling, but this can be complicated depending on certain circumstances.
