Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

USPS Span Of Control

Someone please help me understand why there are so many highly paid people with only two or three reports???? It seems like there are at least three more middle layers than needed.

Cisco doesn’t pay high salaries to directors. The company I work for now pays directors $250k mid point starting salary. The job description is considered sr manager at Cisco. Cisco is a do more, pay less.

@a7 the middle layers are vulnerable. Most of them are not hands-on and would be useless with AI agents or Agentic AI!

Cisco way to expand and the compress. Multiple layers make them important.

They have nothing else to do unless they get cut and downsized.

Enjoy the ride.

I've watched Cisco expand and contract its span of control over the years. They add new layers, then re-org to remove them. Then add more layers, then re-org.

Right after I was laid off, they promoted a team member to a Director role to add an additional layer of management to the org.

But maybe this is the goal now: Eliminate all the worker bees, and have Directors and up run the company with AI?
