Thread regarding Global Payments Inc. layoffs

The trade off that's not worth making

I've been thinking a lot about the people I've watched burn out here, the ones who stayed late every night, who answered emails on weekends, who pushed through stress headaches and sleepless nights because they thought it was what they had to do. Every single one of them would tell you now that it wasn't worth it. Their health declined, their relationships suffered, and the company didn't reward them for any of it. Your health matters more than their bottom line, and I wish I'd learned that lesson earlier.

I couldn’t agree more! I tell people all the time, take your breaks. Take your vacation. Turn off the phone notifications once you “clock out”. The most mentally draining thing I’ve cut out was checking my email when I wake up. If they fire you or demote you due to creating boundaries, it’s time to find a place that does.

I was one of those people. Not worth it. I don’t do it anymore. I’m also seeing more and more people stop doing it. Humans aren’t meant to live this way. When you have execs on calls talking about their private planes, etc. it makes you step back and wonder.
