@kk or White female
sometimes we are given a number and then we have to decide who. other times our leader chooses based on some stack ranking that we did prior. there's really no guidance. what we do get is a script to read to the ones that are riffed.
for our teams, we pick strategically. who will benefit the team/can handle the work after we lose x people? who is willing to take on more work and not complain. who will put the time in that's needed. what level of work does the team have ie cslt, sr analyst, analyst. what team members work well together and who doesn't. who can I rely on or not. who self-manages well and who doesn't. leaders pick what's most important to them in an employee and thats who they keep.
Criteria initially White Male over 60
Next criteria While Males over 55
Third level criteria White Males over 50
Golden Ticket anyone of 3 above with 20+ years experience
The November/December layoff was so big it was based on who they can live without.
@dn Told you... its the high pay! This is a cost-cutting game at Verizon.
AD here. Direct from VP guidance if I wanted to get rid of anybody from my team. The team is ranked, and whoever is at the bottom would be submitted for consideration.
You get evaluated based on the frequency and quality of the licking that you do.
@b6 and what does that get these rebels? if the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule ?
they go to lunch or out shopping for a coupla hours and youre not invited. Guess what?
My sr. Manager mentioned yesterday that people who have not completed the Google Ai and AI unlocked certificates would have less job security. AI is going to be a skill competency you need to have.
I don’t like it, but it’s true.
High cost and no visibility. I am low cost and low visibility, but do heavy backend work that actually improves systems daily.
We had two high cost, Principle and Distinguished engineers were let go. I thought they had high visibility as well, ended up let go.
@a9 zero rhyme or reason given to me as an AD. Just names.
yes verizon is full of high paid manager that keep their friends and fire others ,its been like that for decades.
its all based off politics. they tend to get rid of those who are rebellious aka people who know their rights that do not budge into whatever is told of them to do
$$$$$$$$
Who makes the most money is on top of the list - doesn't matter whether high-performing/talented or not. One then fights to keep him/her and sacrifices another one close enough in pay range instead. Some leaders look at how painful someone has been in the past to work with, and this is a trigger.
@a4 is spot on. It also applies to Dr and sometimes Sr.Dir. Of course there are some outliers here and there where they have the ability to freely select.
e.g. if you have an employee that knows or have a quick access to the VP/SVP then good luck selecting them regardless of how horrible they are at their job.
@a4 well yeah but does your Sr. Director say hey “we are losing a headcount and will be laying someone off” and then you both collaborate together on who it should be based on certain factors? Or you are seriously saying your sr director tells you a specific person will be laid off and they don’t give you any rhyme or reason or insight as to why?
AD here. My criteria are as follows: my Sr Director tells me we're laying someone on my team off.
