No promotions for people who are already here. No balance between work and life. No chance to move into a different role internally. What we do have is plenty of favoritism toward friends and family.

For anybody who has been waiting patiently in line for a promotion to be finalized, and has been delayed because of the company performance (or has been snubbed in favor of a certain ethnic group), HR should reward those employees with an extra week of vacation time. At least show some goodwill for Christ’s sake. This should not be a substitute, but rather a gesture to acknowledge the unfairness and show respect to your employees. See, it’s not that hard to demonstrate decency. Put me in charge and watch things change very quickly.
Don’t worry, Sammy San will promote his buddies from university. I can see the email blast on July 1 “(Insert Japanese name), promoted to ABC, (Insert Japanese name) promoted to XYZ. Please join me in congratulating these individuals as they move into mission critical roles,”
Everyone else, pound sand.
@OP and a lot of unhappy employees. The quiet quitting goes on.
