As a meta mate I heard about the 7k employees being moved to MSL to work on AI initiatives.
Few questions:
How can I volunteer to be moved, or was that already randomly determined?
What are they actually doing there? Anything cutting edge?
Will they the most safe from the next few layoffs since they just got re orged?
You don't want to move to AI team unless you can speak Chinese. Many teams here are 80%-90% Chinese, they don't speak English in meetings. They also don't care if you feel disrespected or being left out. I was hoping to get my fat severance PKG today and GTFO but unfortunately my badge is still working and no sudden meeting scheduled by mgr or HR today.

Training their replacements
As the AI models get trained to do their jobs they will be out the door just like everyone else. Meta is behind the competition on AI. One of the first skills the competition developed their models to do was generate software so AI can generate its own code. Software engineer is one of the first job skills that is being decimated by AI.
That's probably SWEs who are being moved to work on AI initiatives instead of other products
