Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Why do production and reservoir engineers usually get promoted faster than facilities

Looked at a lot of the managers here and most of them are either a PE or RE. Have not seen many FE. Im in FE, is it better to switch to a PE role

Almost always promoted faster if you desked in the corporate office. Visibility is everything. My expat positions paid well and had great life experiences but I did not move up as fast as my peers that stayed in the office.

Do what you can to get drilling, completions, production or reservoir experience. Need to understand the subsurface to progress in oil and gas (in theory)

RE’s can be very visible when leading company changing huge developments where as FE’s tend to mainly fit in a support role.

What is your proof that REs get promoted faster than FE’s?
