Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

SEs hold on to your butts!

Massive changes for Portfolio SEs coming. Essentially generalists won’t exist any more.

@gs SE's invent and fantasize capabilities and then when CU/partner implement and it doesn't do what SE said they come to BU demanding BU fast track the development of invented capability. This keeps happening. Field need to be held to account for what they promise, including termination.

@g1 i think the point of that post is the tactic which SE's deliver fluff and salesware which create challenges in the deploy phase. This frequently happen in SBG

@a6 This is one of the d-mbest posts I have seen here and that is saying something given some posts here. Why'd you expect an SE, who, by definition is a pre-sales person, deliver post sales or implement or deploy? M0r0n.

Showing up with ten specialists at a meeting outnumbering the customer is no way to win business.
Something is very wrong at Cisco. Too siloed and too specialised outside the core R+S franchise.

Just in the first 3 replies to this post it is evident that everyone has a different idea of what each role is supposed to do. The last thing customers want is to have 20 people show up and most of them don't delivery anything relevant. It is the perfect example that they are paying to much for the products that they was buying. At most large corporations sales is usually an are ripe for cuts with little impact to the amount of product being sold.

@OP account execs and portfolio se aren't about the portfolio, or it shouldn't be. It's about the customer. As long as someone owns the customer relationship on the technical side it doesn't matter what their title is.

@a6 that's explicitly not in the domain of presales... That is the d-mbest thing ever. Like saying you don't see developers upgrading software in prod.

I have yet to have a SE contribute to anything of value post sale. they deliver so many salesware solutions then cant deliver when it's time to implement / deploy.
