Just heard all contractors are being forced to take 2 weeks unpaid furlough between July and September. Guessing this will save the company about $25m. There’s got to be a better way than to have so many contractors, some of which are useless…. If they would just correct and balance the teams we could eliminate some useless employees and maybe hire some of the great contractors in their places!

@er they ki-led all of our employee overtime as well.
@ej and in previous years you could get an exception if there was a “business need” (my manager always granted exceptions). Now there are no exceptions regardless of business need. They also ki-led overtime for contractors.
My contract was up in June 2025. In spite of being told that I was the highest performing member of my team (Which i still somehow remained 6 months after departure?), My management was told that VZ was not renewing contracts. I walked away and luckily found gainful employment as a fulltime employee at a competitor.
@eb yes but THIS year they are forcing them to take 2 weeks (of their choice) between July and September. I’m assuming they will also be forced to take off thanksgiving and Xmas weeks as well.
T&M contractors have ALWAYS been required to take off 3 weeks per year. The week that 7/4 falls in, plus Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks. You don't get a choice which weeks, those are the weeks. Nothing new there. Can't speak to SOW contractors, but I suspect they are governed by their company not Vz.
What kind of contractors? Offshore, onshore, field, office?
and which contracting vendor company(ies)?
@dh T&M and it’s now 2 weeks between July and September. It was typically the holiday week only but now it’s mandatory 2 full weeks.
In the public sector, Verizon retained the contractors and got rid of employees. Some of these contractors are making a lot of money.
T&M contractors or SOW contractors? Some T&M contractors are required to take off a week in July or some number of unpaid days throughout the year.

wait wait... When I got the axe and left VZ in December 2025, chatting with my contractor friends, ALL contractors were to be gone by Dec 31. Did VZ bring back contractors?
