Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

You Have No Transferrable Skills

Don’t get angry. Understand whatever amazing skills you have are not transferrable

Example- why would Nvidia, Anthropic, OpenAI, etc. hire you?
Using AI is building AI. Don’t be confused here.

Funny how people who’ve never sat in a room with the ELT, engineers or scientists from the Mag-7, OpenAI or Anthropic think they understand where AI is heading 😂. Using ChatGPT and building frontier AI are obviously different things, but pretending networking, infrastructure, optics, security and enterprise scale operations aren’t transferable skills just shows how little you understand about how AI actually works in the real world. The irony is the people genuinely closest to this technology are usually the least arrogant about it.

I think we can all agree that "traditional" skills like planning, design, debugging, and so on are considered out-dated.

The "new hotness" skills are things like prompt-writing and chaining agents together.

I don't think that's a strategy for long-term success, but we'll see. There will always be more bubbles to inflate. Seems like the game is to create a momentary appearance of great value, sell high, and run away before it all crashes down.

What a je-k. You think you are invincible? Your time will come too. Cocky je-ks like you will not last long in any industry and once you lose your Job, with that attitude you will get no interviews. Have some sympathy for people who lost their jobs and well being and they have to support a family.

@OP Lucky that new skills are much easier to acquire than tact. If you were my report you'd be reamed for a comment like that.

@OP is correct.
You could have skilled up, yet chose to be lazy and not adapt. It’s harsh, but honest assessment.
