Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

The wrong solution

The problem isn't that we have too many people. That was never the real issue. The problem is that our strategy is bad and our systems are broken and have been for some time. But instead of fixing those things, they just cut staff. And then they're surprised when nothing improves.

You need to upskill yourself so we can use you in other areas.
Then prove yourself on your cap. 5 different sections, each with 25 separate hoops to jump through.
We are going to need you to create templates and AI agents so we can automate your work. Then we need you to train some new folks who replaced people we let go, not because of their age but just randomly. Those new folks aren't here to replace you. Don't be insecure.
Then we are going to need you to prove cost cuts. Lots of them. Use the attached template for your submissions because we are tracking them, along with your mouse clicks, engagement through slack and PS we read your IMs for efficiency and transparency. All hands on deck! See you in the fireside chat, where we expect you to engage and ask questions. But do know the wrong kind of question will put you in the 5% bucket. Before we get to all that, please listen to my 20 minute safety message and chat about my wife and kids, and my origin story.

I heard next WOC survey is going to have a list of the top 20 SLT and everyone is going to get to pick the 3 that they think are holding the company back from being more successful.

@c0 Sorry you got him as your CIO - he was not good here either. A big loud mouth bully that used his buddy, the CIO, for political clout. Good luck

Just popped over from the unfortunate company that sourced its CIO from your ranks a couple years ago and this was the first post I saw. We could have written an identical post over on our page. Solidarity and best of luck to all those affected by the latest BS.

Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic is the only solution that doesn't make management responsible for the outcome
