Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

No, this doesn't happen. However, I have seen several fast-tracked C14->C16 promotions in the nearly 3 decades I was at C. By fast-tracked, I mean C14 to C16 in <24 months which is ludicris but does happen and always at the hand of senior executive level (direct reports to CEO level.)

The quickest I've seen someone go from AVP to SVP was 3 years. They moved to London for the SVP promotion though.

@ca

My guess is that it happens only with less than 1% of the employee population, AND this was Before year 2021.

I've witnesses this happen with an SVP who snagged a job to MD, in a different job. Still he was allowed to skip/jump from SVP to MD, and skip Director level.

But since $hittibank needs money, has financial, technological and operational problems And is undergoing multi-year Layoffs, I saw strategy PPTs that showed Level-skipping is No longer allowed starting in 2022.

As usual in $hittibank, the only way to move up is out.

$hittibank's intention is to keep as many employees at VP and below for a long as possible and keep dangling the In-seat promotion carrot, keep moving the goal posts that employees will NEVER actually get.

And also keep raising the bar to make the employees work harder and more hours for a prize the employees will actually NEVER get.

Reasons always go back to money. VP and below have lower salaries and bonuses percentages than SVP and above.

Only financially unstable companies do these machinations and play these games. This does NOT happen at GS, JPMC, etc..

Unless you’ve got a legion of MDs aligned across HR, your function, etc it’s not going to happen. It’s massively unfair to the cohort and any manager worth their salt knows that you’ll just open up the gates of he-l with every single employee crying that they want the same deal, why is she special, etc. The whining alone would make any sane manager nope away from that scenario.

@OP I saw someone in our area (fcdo) do it. They moved from booking dra adjustments to working on use cases. They sold themselves as a product specialist and picked up the rest on the way. It’s not impossible, but it’s a three point shot over a dunk. Good luck with the move.

@av+1kre8430x: Unfortunately most managers here thinks they are kings, come to reality if you are fired tomorrow, you and your time are nothing.

@av
No need to bah harsh. The OP can be someone with a lot of experience and join citi without knowing the internl ranking system.

If you leave Citi and then come back some years later, maybe. As an internal move, no way, even if selected for the role, HR will make the hiring manager bump it down to VP and you would be paid in the lowest foundational pay bracket

what makes you think you can handle work two levels up? have you been rated 1s for the past two years? i always find ppl delusional who don't do well in their current role but talk so confidently about doing a higher level role

@OP
Everything is possible as long as you know the right people.
Most CEO never start at C5 or lower position. They work as assistant to director. Best to look for a job at another bank and come back 2-3 years later.

Generally no.

Even if this was done by some, it would be an exception rather than the norm. It's highly unusual to skip a level especially in a non-revenue generating role.
