Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Tomorrow isn’t the end of the layoffs

I think most people know by now tomorrow is the day, with a few people in denial. This was a quota game, leaders were told to eliminate x number of people for many teams as the only consideration.

This isn’t the end either. There will be more rounds this year. If as a business, they decide we need to do cuts, fine. But they continue to cut talent and drag out morale instead of doing it all at once. We are all being told to take on more for no extra pay and use AI which constantly makes mistakes. The only reward is MAYBE keeping your job. Talk about transparency and doing the right thing… yet let’s keep making employees live in fear.

@fk I’m grateful to have a job and I know I’m lucky, no doubt about that. But that doesn’t change the point of the post that what the company is doing is not right

@OP at least you have job. I was laid off in December and people less experienced, less educated and without any certifications were retained.

@ba Wrong, they already began, and I was impacted along with many others today, 20+ years, and all I was told was HR will contact you in the morning with the severance package, take the rest of the week off.

There is no end to layoffs. It was that with Hans, and so with Dan. There is no confidence that leadership will stop and think about the US employee, ever. I carve that out because off-shore is just cheaper, and work will be sent there, plus its harder to riff there as well. Mediocrity is the new future, with just a handful of people holding down the fort.

I can confirm this. A round this week in our group (heads equate to about 10%), followed by another round in November '26 and into next year. Heard this from someone in senior leadership in my group. I am located in BR under Caroline Armour.

My advice get your resume, references, portfolio, and finances in tip top shape NOW. Ride the wave of severance and get paid. The company is downsizing and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop any time soon.

I manage 5 projects.
I had 4 lead developers.
Now I have 1 lead developer and more issues than we can handle.
With new working coming from all direction.
Maybe getting fired from this is a blessing so I can work for a better company that sees us as more than a piggy bank to break open and loot on a whim.

And NO I'm not management but I get treated as such so they don't have to pay me overtime.
