I have been laid off twice before. You need to immediately, right now, update your resume. Start looking for work ASAP. Look at all your expenses and see which ones you can cut back and start doing that immediately. Plan for eating all your meals at home and be strategic with the groceries. Don’t buy anything non-essential. Stretch your severance as far as you can then apply for unemployment as soon as it stops paying out. Meanwhile reach out to everyone in your network. Update your LinkedIn. You’re going to find work a lot easier through someone you know than just cold applying. Take any reasonable work you can get, do not try to hold out for your dream position. Then you can continue your job search while employed.
