Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Word of advice from a layoff survivor

Not here to contribute to saying a layoff is/isn’t gonna happen.

That being said, I took 0 hours of PTO when I was laid off. I was surprised when I had my PTO hours paid out to me in cash. That and equity all paid out to me in a lump sum for each.

So, if you believe you’re getting the axe… don’t take PTO. You’ll be paid a bit more extra as a parting gift.

Take the unemployment. Enjoy the exit package if you get one. Go to the heath connector get new benefits they are highly affordable when you are unemployed (they might be better than the healthcare you currently have for way less out of pocket). Immediately apply for unemployment. In MA your exit package does not count against your unemployment. You can get both/use both at the same time. You have at least a six month runway. Try to just generally be cheap with your finances where you can. Then honestly as you are job hunting enjoy your free time!! Life is too short! Go somewhere you always wanted to. Do that three day hike or bike!! Visit that old friend or relative! Spend more time with your kiddos. Go to the beach. Go for a walk. Fidelity is not that great of a place to work. As a person that has only been here a few years I would have to say it is pretty meh… to say the least. And the recent surveillance state it turned into really not awesome and intrusive. But as for the people working and keeping that lights on you folks are all really good people there has not been any day to day folks I have worked with that I do not like. We all deserve better. They did us rotten. Take the package take the time and enjoy the summer. Never look back.

Wish this site was around back in 09’ during the Nigel (the consultant from the UK) house cleaning before Abby was promoted. Good luck to everyone.

Propel on other posts were saying at fidelity it’s been 2 weeks for every year of service (possibly up to 6 months), or 6 months for everyone.
One month would be so low.

@ac

I'm not OP but I've been laid off more than once. It's usually a months pay, maybe more if you're lucky.

Idk if I would count on them to pay you out the PTO. Not guaranteed.

I’m OP. I just came back to see if anyone responded back. Then I see the post about QCI’s being moved.

I’m sorry for the terrible timing. I also checked my wording of the post, I didn’t mean to come off as cold.

Seriously, everyone be safe.
