Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I hate this

I hate that nearly every Monday now feels like a question of will there or won’t there be layoffs. I hate that I can’t even relax and decompress on the weekend anymore because it’s always in the back of my mind. It just never really shuts off. This is not the Dell I remember, not even close. It’s become such an unrecognizable company these days.

Yeah well, for anyone who actually enjoys working at Dell (such as myself) it's just something you have to get used to. It su-ks but, all corporations are like this. It's not just Dell.

There is no sense in worrying about layoffs man, they are a constant thing at Dell and, 99% of companies. Nothing you can do about it so why even worry?

The only thing you can do is do your job, maybe a little su-king up, and quit worrying about layoffs because you can't actually control that.

I hate when I check my emails each morning and finding there is no business update meeting invite. The disappointment knowing I have at least one more day of work at this pit of despair is overwhelming.

@bz Same for me. Just shy of 20 years. It's an obvious shedding of those that basically gave Dell the best years of our careers.

Thanks for making Dell what it is (or was) now hit the road & good luck at your age finding something.

That said...its such a RELIEF to no longer wonder "when" the inevitable is going to happen.

The good news is that it's better to be outside of Dell once you get your new role. Grind on self-betterment NOW. Catch up on trainings and industry certifications. Get your resume to 110% ready. Work on all of your STAR stories and dig through your dell archives to build concrete examples. I would consider talking to a headhunter yesterday. They will help you understand what you are qualify for, what your gaps are, and how to put your story together.

@b5

100%

You need to plan for the layoff. Dell has been shedding people for the last several years. I don't even think we reach some sort of steady state until they deploy as much AI as they can OR they run out of money trying to achieve it. It seems like other companies have stated they are laying off people to use the salaries for more AI equipment.

@b5 yes yes yes!!! Make a plan for the eventuality that you are layed off! Remember to file unemployment, keep resume up to date, grow savings accounts, put your financial advisor on speed dial. Good to have a plan! Maybe you won’t need it. Yet.

It gets a little easier when you understand there will always be layoffs, you have no control over when they happen and if you're targeted , and you can help prepare yourself for the inevitable by using Dell's money and training resource to become as marketable as possible

@OP It's not a matter of if but when there will be more "Kirk Lawrences" at Dell. Dell absolutely does not care. Employees are treated like disposable objects.

Sounds terrible.
I hope you’re applying elsewhere if it makes you feel this way.
