Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why are the union members excluded

All we hear everyday is that layoffs are coming. You would think the company would like to reduce headcount on the union side. To this day. I have not heard of any planned reduction for the union members, I know alot if people who want to leave.

@cj Non fiber cable internet is a very low bar to compare anything to. It’s all about fiber. And will be going forward.

@cj you must have got a special price or something, when I had it it was more expensive than cable and speeds were comparable. Fios is far superior.

@cj First you are hearing of it? LOL. Failed miserably. That’s why there has been carnage on the wireless side , with more to come.

@ad 5G has failed? First I'm hearing of it.

I had VZ 5G internet for 3 years and it was every bit as good as my cable internet for 1/3 the price (at the time). Still half price of cable.

5G absolutely hasn't failed.

Union contract states that the Company has to get rid of ALL THE CONTRACTORS FIRST before they touch the Union. Sooo ……….

You’re right. Dan gets rid of 13k managers but doesn’t think a union reduction is needed? There was a big surplus rumor circulating for the first quarter which never materialized. Latest rumor says he canvassed some directors and they whined about loosing union head count. All Dan has to do is look at the account codes being charged l. It’s a lot of “ non-productive “ time being charged for “ self-created “ tickets. And it can range from $15k to $25k a year in non-productive time for central office techs annually. Cot’s if they looked at their total np time in December would be shocked. Very little actual orders or repairs being loaded to technicians. This is particularly the case for central office technicians. The managers are terrified if the $hit hits the fan they aren’t going to close a timed in time. Upper management could change the metrics target whenever they want. They are just stubborn. The real tangibles for some of the 2nd level managers is cleaning out filing cabinets! Who cares about a filing cabinet sitting in a back room for 60 years! How does that improve customer service or make the network run more efficiently?! A bunch of schoolmarms running things. That’s the problem.

Union works under a contract....it's way more expensive to offer them packages, pensions, seniority, retirement, healthcare and the list goes on and on...and it needs to be approved by both parties
