Thread regarding Optum layoffs

The wrong target

Every round of cuts here goes after the people who keep things running. The ones who know the systems, who have the relationships, who fix problems before anyone notices them. The dead weight somehow always survives. They are not cutting fat. They are cutting muscle.

@OP So true. We lost a higher performer on a team of 8, only one cut. My guess is they were higher on the salary grade so they got cut.

A person who does absolutely nothing survived after they laid off a different person who was quietly doing the work of three different people. Love this for them.

The cuts are just random. It's not getting rid of the bad or the good, but a mix of both. And what's left is put under more pressure and more burden as they have to pick up the extra work.

I wouldn't think of your fellow coworkers as lesser because of whether or not they got taken out, or whether or not they've found a way out. I see plenty of people doing good work but you have to remember how bad it's gotten for all of us here. It's hard to see it when the nepotistic leadership we have has done everything they can to sabotage us.

That's because the cuts are purely a financial decision. No one is looking at the long-term impact of cutting the productive, highly paid workers. This is a short-term "fix" to course correct. We will worry about talent loss later. Very short-sighted. The talent drain is real. If it saves the company money, the goal has been met.
