Anyone else feel like they're being set up to be laid off, or did anyone feel that way before they were laid off? Feels like I'm living in an alternate universe with my manager, reality is being revised to reflect negatively on me. For example, a sequence of events happens (not necessarily bad, just the course of business), everyone is on the same page, then later a recap/retelling of those events takes place which doesn't jive with what actually went down. Blew it off as paranoia on my part for a while but it's too blatant to keep doing that. Keeps happening. Manager trying to save themselves? Put a target on my back? Never had any issues with them before this sort of thing started happening. Just me?

If you are repeatedly sidelined, not included or consulted only when things go wrong they are making room for someone they choose to save over you. Extra bonus points if they start making noise about you training someone who is either off shore or hasn't the mental capacity to understand a word you are saying guised as a growth opportunity. Take it as a blessing and move on - company has gone to complete sh-t, run by buzzword regurgitating, self aggrandizing clueless "super stars".
@OP Agree that when you see HR suddenly walking around and meeting with managers, layoffs are often soon to follow. HRs sole purpose is to protect the company, not you, despite what you’re told. Your manager’s recent behavior may have nothing to do with you being impacted because RiFs don’t require evidence of poor performance. They just say your role is no longer needed. Then, after all the layoffs happen and money again becomes available, they’ll hire someone new at a higher salary to fill your role. That’s the “BD Way” lol. If your calendar is suddenly getting sparse, it could be an indication. My advice is to update your resume anyway and document these strange interactions with your manager with dates. Save emails too.

HR was in the flks building and that’s usually to let people go or discuss the planning of who to let go. Heard of 1 person who was let go not sure if there are more but what is happening to you isn’t normal manager is either showing their true colors now or something bigger is in the works
