Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Ethics

Anyone have success with the ethics hotline doing something about a bad situation? Like management retaliation, too much work with no OT pay, etc

I suspect that hey are the bigger frauds. They don't take any action on the complaints they receive and they are probably leaking some information to save some big guys. Be careful!

The ethics office is independent from HR but operates on the same principle: protect the bank, not the employee. Don’t waste your time.

@bv Doesn't Ethics roll up to Brent Mcintosh, the General Counsel? Ethics was supposed to be different from HR to be 'independent' of HR . WHich sounds nice on paper but in effect, Ethics, Legal and HR, separation or no, have one single purpose - to protect Citi's interests , help and protect those that contribute directly to the bottom dollar of Citi (front office revenue generating MD's) while locking out complaints or concerns from employees by always sticking to 'we did not find any evidence to back up the concerns..' in front of employees

If you look up the Ethics head, she is a Paul Weiss former lawyer so no surprises there. Not there to protect employees

It’s time for a change in Ethics. Sams broken ethics management with worsening outcomes

The Ethics Office is separate from HR. If the issue raised is out of EO scope then they share it with HR but otherwise it is a separate entity. Retaliation and Pay issues would align with HR.

HR’s responsibilities are fundamentally aligned with organizational leadership, which can limit their ability to fully advocate for employee concerns. Given this structural reality, engaging with them does not always lead to meaningful resolution, and it is important to be mindful of where your time and efforts are most effectively directed

I was part of a major investigation few years ago. Ethics team wants to do the right thing, but they have zero authority to enforce. Ethics passes the outcomes and recommendations to the Group CIO / CEO of the division and those jokers do what is convenient for them. So Retaliation is the natural outcome. Within Citi expecting a MD or C level person to be ethical is next to impossible. At Citi, no one gets to that level if they are ethical.

If you have all the evidence and have some allies to support you, go for it, otherwise whistle-blowing to OCC or any other federal authority is the safe way.

Not atg Citi anymore (thankfully), but I tried once with Ethics. They were nice and sympathetic. I had written evidence of retaliatory threats from MD ...I had witnesses and very strong one's at that. A few had left the team due to these predatory practices encouraged by the MD and his minion MD and D. Ethics did speak with everyone patiently...3 witnesses were contacted. Directly told me my mid year with new manegement is not at all reflective of multipe mid and year ends with management before reorg. Took 4 months

Came back with - we could not find any evidence of any wrong doing blah blah blah blah. The same person who had been so sympathetic throughout. Between Legal, Ethics and HR, don't expect to be treated with even an ounce of respect. Go elsewhere...most competitors are the same but Citi is the worst offender in this regard

HR is to represent a company not an employee. It will do everything to protect the company, not you.
