Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Great talent leaving

& it begins. Top talent, all stars, super studs, leaving the company for better opportunities.

GLTA that stay - I pray things get better for you. My advice, take the first step to see what else is out there. Resume, add the world on linkedin, don't just sit around waiting to see if you'll get RIF. The company is going down a path nobody can change, it just is what it is. Do what's best for you and your family, you owe this company NOTHING. Go make something of yourself

@bg 100% they don’t understand what they are presenting and half the time it uses bad data or good data used incorrectly.

definitely feeling the extra workload from the rifed

VZ has alot of good talent domestically and international.
If you have been here over 20 years, you exactly know what I am talking about.
VZ retains them very well

I cannot tell you how much time is burned preparing decks for VPs and how many layers of management they have to go through until they get finally reviewed by someone who can do something actionable. OMG. Then you have all the groups fighting over the data to be able to find some unique way to look at things to make their existence seem to matter. Meanwhile the consultants are off doing their own version of what we are doing. It is good for multiple people to look at data but the degree of siloing and people trying to appear relevant is just sickening. This is a people management problem that they always seem to try to solve by getting rid of non-people managers.

@bg I hear you on all that. Every year it's do more more more and VZW has always delivered what they wanted that was in our control. Yet it was never good enough. So the same cycle goes on and on. Then they turn around and RIF great people who were part of their successes. Well maybe it's time to miss some of those promised targets because you what it really doesn't matter in the end.

Working hard is not the problem. I do plenty of that here for piddly raises and no promotional opportunities, broken promises, and always wondering if I get laid off. We keep working harder and doing the jobs of the previously riffed. Working hard is not our problem. Now being led by id--ts who only get parachutes when they buy the Yahoos, XOs, useless spectrum, and other stupid acquisitions and buy wireless at the worst possible time. We get punished for their sins. Things went downhill after Ivan left.

We could get rid of some layers of upper management who spend their lives reviewing decks so they can show something squeaky clean to their boss. What exactly is the value add? Yet the peons get riffed. So stupid.

@af they are out there - they always are, for people who look hard, work harder and who have a plan that goes beyond “What I want to do on my summer vacation!”
