Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Hours in office policy

Does Schwab have an official policy for minimum hours in office, or how early/late you can be in the office?

My manager mandates 9 hours in office and you cannot leave before 4PM.

The two other team managers mandate 7.5 hours with many working 7AM-2:30PM.

If you're exempt (salary) you are paid to complete your work, not based on how many hours you work. Sometimes you put in 6 hours, sometimes 13 hours in a day. You don't get to say, sorry I've worked 8 hours today, I'm going home. At the same time, the company can't mandate hours either. It's the law. Otherwise, tell them to convert your Salary to hourly (current yearly salary / # of 8 hours work days per year). Then you'll get non-taxed overtime and time and a half when you work holidays. Enjoy.

LMAO what planet are you from? How long have you been working? For any full time job you’re in the office 8 hours. This is only a question a spoiled “Schwabbie” would ask

@zf Exempt @58+ may be told 45+ is expected, but we cannot say required. There are lots of cute ways we insinuate it. My guys are told we need to get the work done and that we need to watch for hours creep. Any of them putting in 50+ consistently is a red flag that I use for LE count and resourcing. And we work to drop unneeded work. There is so much of that.

@nf I know a couple of managers in other areas and both told me to report the situation to HR.

I am afraid of retaliation, even though the managers assured me it would not end well for my manager.

Take this with a grain of salt, but this is what I've gathered from some people leaders I've talked to about this.

Right now, they're only looking for badge scans in/out like they were doing prior. First thing they want to see is that you're coming in on the days that you're supposed to.

Then, it's up to the manager's discretion to dig deeper into the scanning, looking for a specific times in and times out. If it doesn't accumulate to a minimum of 6 hours per day, then there may be some corrective action taken, contingent on your manager.

AGAIN, it's all hearsay from higher up people, but for now they only really seem to pull out the big g-ns when they need to if they see an employee is excessively out and want to look into it.

I expect that when you joined it said 40 hrs a week... if you are being told 45, then Schwab is breaching the contract. Some weeks of over 40 are fine but if it's mandated weekly I think they could run into issues.
