Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Training your replacements

I really enjoy training my replacements. Can't wait to see our plants run by engineers half a world away. Another short-sighted idea by "double our profits" Darren.

@a8 Jobs have been getting sent overseas for decades, long before WFH as we know it was a thing.

Why do you keep repeating this WFH = outsourcing BS?

remember - you need to come into the office to work for the culture and to collaborate, but indians do not

the far that you suddenly don’t need those things when you’re a cheap hire tells you all that you need to know about the sincerity of the matter and its staunch defenders

It's a disaster in the making.

Best of luck in XOM's recruiting process when the word gets out.

I have to deal with these clowns on the other side of the globe. They have no clue as to what is happening on a day to day basis. Why is the pressure so low?

I don't know. Maybe because we had to shut down the tower due to a leak. I usually have to spend the first 10 minutes of the conversation just to get them up to speed on what happened the shift before.

This is what happens when you work from home. It just proves that your job can be done cheaper by someone remotely.....................

@OP Most of your core engineering functions are already being performed by vendors, contractors, and/or consultants anyway. Been that way for years. Not sure I’m following you here.

You are overreacting - they will keep one "normal" engineer at the site and eveythong will be fine : )
