If you suspect your’re suspecting a RIF, start documenting what’s going on, emails, conversations. Document work being taken away by outsourcing, anything irregular that’s going on within your organization. My boss was treating others very differently than me, my coworkers were spreading rumours and telling on me to make themselves look better. Document all the BS going on.
I looked into a really good employment lawyer 2 years before I got RIF, I had so much documentation, some my boss would send emails to our group, he had security settings to not allow forwarding or reply, not allowed to copy and paste, they would auto delete after closing. I had a little program I could clip photos of them. In teams meetings I would record them, stuff that was said was very unethical. Get the stuff off the company laptop or phone, they monitor that as well if they suspect anything, reading all your emails and text or messages. This should be a given.
If you are prepared for the RIF, a lawyer will be able to get you more money, my lawyer was fabulous, took almost a year to settle, but in the end I got a very nice severance, my lawyer bill was right about $2000, money well spent.

The packages are better than most. Always get a lawyer but they will tell you the same thing. The reality is you are getting money to leave, don't expect it to be life changing.

@ma Not surprising. From my own experience, once you get past the automatons at ServiceNow, it seems that HR is basically a skeleton crew. In my region, there's basically one person that is supposed to look after the day to day operation of our whole country. Lol. And of course, they messed up multiple requests that I had for them.

I was affected last month in GHQ. I was a G14 who got 16 weeks for being there 8 years + some back severance they owed me (~14 weeks) as a rehire from a 2023 legacy NCR RiF. Be prepared for (not surprisingly) a likely inefficient process so that the company can further slow play or not pay out your owed benefits. They may (based on my personal experience) delay processing your severance due to waiting a week to confirm they received your signed paperwork, not reply back in a timely fashion to your email inquiries, and/or mess up your health insurance end date causing problems with planned Dr. visits, labs, and testing.

All the above is very true. Consult an employment lawyer. More importantly, if you have options, jump rather than wait to be called into a “special meeting”. That’s what they want you to do to save them severance but the package really isn’t worth the indignity of the process and the sense of betrayal that will always remain. Perhaps some future leadership there will realize that the people jumping ship or being forced out are more costly than the inept people who somehow always manage to remain.

You will lose your health insurance fast, USA at end of the month, other countries have different rules, maybe 90 days

This is a topic nobody talks about, the severance package that you get is from the legal team, it is written to scare the heck out of you, try to force you to sign it with in 14 days, or they threaten to void the stated severance with less. The papers will state you by signing you agree to everything said, and basically sign away all rights to ever come after them in any way ever again for anything. finally by signing it, you agree any details of the severance package is confidential and you are unable to talk about it with anyone except you spouse ( or Legal adviser)

You will be offered what the laws in your state or country have, if you are union severance is clearly stated in your contract.

Don’t expect a grand package, I consulted a employment lawyer myself, I would recommend that if you have any concerns your’re not being treated fairly.

I doubt anyone will put their numbers here, talk to them in confidence, not on the internet
