Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Only office = promotion policy

So ridiculous. They are saying no directors except in Westlake or maybe Lone Tree. Even 59 PLs are getting warned during the interview process that they will have to get some sort of difficult approval. Do they genuinely expect everyone to move to those fiery city hellholes for this job? Cuz nope.
What about the offices THEY closed, like St Louis, New Jersey and Maryland? What about smaller offices like Chicago, Ann Arbor, Raleigh? And what about disability exceptions? If promotions are lost because of this policy, the lawsuits will be massive.

Go ahead and look for another job - many firms have 4 day RTO - feel free to look around

It’s true and they were very clear when they made the March 2 in office announcement, if you want to get even another lateral role, not just a promotion and you work from home, then you need to go into an office. Only very rare circumstances will the CHRO approve telecommute going forward. Hopefully, you like your job if you are remote.

@eq Depends on when you applied. Last year Schwab did a one time WFH allowance, where anyone over x miles (I think it was 40) would automatically be allowed to "permanently" work from home. However, the gotcha is if they applied for a "promotion" or any kind of new position after that one time allowance, they would have to go into the office based on the location(s) listed for the position they are applying for. Schwab is not posting any new positions that allow work from home.

That said, I'm guessing anyone who is working remotely because of a medical accommodation, they'll still be allowed to do that if they applied for a new position, assuming they got the medical accommodation renewed (which is getting harder).

@eq This is absolutely true. I know of 2 separate people who are fully remote and they have independently told me this

@by This isn't true. I accepted a new position last year only on the condition that my WFH accommodation was renewed, and it was.

Technically, there are no promotions. Schwab stopped using that term a long time ago for legal reasons. You basically have to apply for a new position to get "promoted" and all new positions are on prem only. So, if you are currently remote and you apply for a new position, you will be required to go into an office. Doesn't matter what level you are at.

This has been unofficial and official for a long time. Austin used to be on the list. Peak hasn't been for a while but there are new directors there. If you ain't in Westlake you don't count.
