Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Employee appreciation

I thought the employee appreciation day in HQ was so well done, I really enjoyed hearing about all the award winners. The food trucks were an added bonus to bad it’s only once a year. Would be nice to see people smile like that once a quarter. Plus I think bring your kid day should definitely be brought back it’s fun seeing the little kids!

Thanks canon and Sammy for a good day.

@vk I agree with you 100% a WFH or being able to leave an hour early would have been great.. Food days are overrated and unnecessary at this point.. The fact that we were compensated with an all day food event for employee Appreciation given the fact the raises were 2% and lower was a big kick in the teeth...

If there was ever a company that can’t get sh-t right it would be this one! Yeah food was great, especially the cookie thrown in with the lunch box. The donuts oh so big were great too and let’s not forget more cookies during social hour. Considering raises were less than 2% for most of us. Considering gas prices are what they are a true employee appreciation would have been a wfh day or even early dismissal! Again if there was ever can’t get right company canon for sure would win 1st place.

In Burlington, we were given breakfast, lunch, and the social hour (cookies), was it a nice gesture? Yes, so before anyone comes at me in the comments for being ungrateful, lol it was nice to not have to worry about lunch and it's free so no complaints about it.. My opinion, I think they could have saved a ton of money with all the food and gave us a WFH day for that day.. It would have been nice to have a short week in the office, again, not ungrateful but I feel like everyone would have really liked that OR if they didn't want to do that instead of the social hour which I don't think was a huge hit by what I observed, let everyone go home an hour early... Again, just my 2 cents...

@jn I believe it was just cookies set out but I don't think alot of people wanted to be bothered with the social hour, it would have been nicer to be able to go home an hour earlier.. Just my opinion..

What was the surprise “treat” at the Burlington social hour?

I drove around for an hour with the AC pumping. I would have just went home, but I had to come back to clock out at 5:00, since the social hour was from 3:30 - 4:30.

@cd The one should get "an earful" is the tech nerd who is getting off with AI as if it's an inflatable human.

Not at HQ, but we got lunch and a snack instead of raises that beat inflation for 2025... Yeah... great.

Idk folks I think employee “recognition” day (I don’t think they ever actually call it “appreciation” day) is fun. Weather was nice (HQ) and I can’t be mad at a free lunch. Meeting is a big waste of everyone’s time but it’s great to watch Sammy get put on the spot for Q&A as he scrambles to call on other execs to answer for him. Whoever let the question on the energy impact of AI through must have gotten an earful… awesome lol

It was well done and I loved to see my coworkers getting recognized…and smiling. They deserve it. The fact that they stayed loyal to a company that has abandoned them {in many ways} is quite remarkable. Alas, did you notice that some (one?) of the presenters came across incredibly ingenuine? If you know, you know…
