Reasons for leaving

Most of my former colleagues who left didn't leave primarily because of higher pay, but because they couldn't stand the terrible management that unnecessarily created frustrating situations. I believe that unprofessional management is the number one reason for leaving here?

Management is why almost all people are quitting at just about every location. The company ran with the PSR ticket, even after the warnings about doing so. You simply cannot pi-s off and layoff your employees, then expect them to be there or stick around when you need them. Can the person who's incredibly proud of their seniority inform the rest of us what ANY of the management/company issues has to do with your seniority? You said it yourself about the longer trains and filthy equipment as a result of PSR. How does that relate to your seniority? I don't know where you work, but there's at least 1 or 2 managers in any direction. Like another person already said, most of them can't even do the task they're in charge of. You only have a few years left, leave it at that, congratulations, and keep it to yourself. People aren't leaving because of seniority issues!

All of my former co-workers who left are making the same or in a couple cases a little more money. But all of them are SO much happier and have better schedules. They all left bcuz of how they were treated by managers, the jobs are hard enough w/o being accused, harassed, and mistreated by someone who in 9 out of 10 cases cant even do the task themselves.

Agreed, creating unnecessary frustrating situations is very much a problem here. Fingers crossed that some day it changes and they get rid of them. Don’t know if it will ever happen though.

Great sound bite, but most employees, especially TE&Y don’t have a lot of interaction with their managers. I have went a couple of months without talking to a manager in the past and some of the young conductors I work with don’t even know who their manager is. I only have a few years until retirement so I am not considering leaving. I don’t like the longer trains we are running or the filthy equipment that is a result of PSR. I don’t worry about being downsized due to my seniority, but I can see where this would and should be a concern to the younger employees. The greatest danger to our employment is the railroads lobbying enough politicians to go to one man crews or possibly unoccupied trains on some routes. It’s critical that everyone research who they vote for. Forget the cultural war cr-p that plays every night on Fox and CNN and find out what the politicians stance is concerning labor and unions. This is critical for our jobs and had a great effect on all of us and our families.
