Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

A completely different company

Everything is changing, however, GF has changed for the worse in a very short period of time. Can you even compare what this company was like when you first came here and this misery now?

I can remember visiting the Malta site very early one while they were holding large recruitment fair like events. And I remember leaving with a very strong feeling and thinking of wow I will never ever set foot in the 100 acre forest again. My naive graduate school mindset smelled scam or pyramid scheme or something wasn’t quite right. I can remember one of the presentation videos was explaining how the local area was expanding and every new GF employee translated to a new dry cleaner or dentist to come to area. It was just very off putting and felt very amateurish.

Well fast forward few years and here I am. I was warned by nearly all my colleagues familiar with our industry to stay away. But I bought into the “potential” and sales pitches of fast career growth. Over the years of working I turned a blind eye to many things and tried to push through. But for what? Nothing panned out. No matter how hard you work or achievements/accomplishments there is no logical real career growth or development. I am pretty much in same spot from when I started. It’s truly an illogical system and environment here at Globalfoundries on how to advance. But with recent actions I realize it was illogical for me to stay as long as I have. Embarrassing really. I think I stayed at first because of how much I personally invested (time, effort, etc.) into Globalfoundries. I didn’t want my personal investment and struggled to go to waste. But now I realize it is a sunken cost. And staying on at GF is an opportunity cost - where I am incurring the loss of potential gain from other alternatives by staying. Fu-k GF.

I think GF used to genuinely strive to become profitable and successful. GF got lucky during the pandemic and became profitable off the backs of hard workers. The moment we become profitable TC sells $15+million of stock and then announces layoffs. I fear leadership and the majority investor will bleed the profits and success instead of investing it back into the company. This will erase any headway Gf has made in recent years..
