Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Anyone from last years LRs still job hunting?

I am. Sent out a lot of applications, then started getting smarter and more targeted. Getting more interviews, but then when the third one comes, it goes well, then ghost town. Tried leveraging contacts, but some were lying or leading me on when I wished they had said they couldn't (or didn't) want to help. With friends like these, am I right?

Still somehow, through it all, hopeful, we sent Gen X astronauts the furthest anyone has gone (well done, Artemis); then anything is possible.

Anyone else having difficulty landing even something part-time to bring in cash? Maybe it's the overqualified part. One food chain I went to said they had over 300 applications for that one store alone. I don't know how many of them are "overqualified", but that sounds like way more than they usually expect...

@17r you want to thank JChambers for it. he said no layoffs at csco while LRs people constantly. what an a..hole. employees exercise your csco stock at 35$ we got your back.. only to find be on street with J.ets take our jobs.

I was part of Nov24 round and it took me 11mo to land a temp-to-perm in a completely unrelated industry.

I am in the Bay Area, Was laid off from Cisco two years ago, have had several interviews but no offers yet. Job market is tough.

I got another job but TC is less than Cisco. In this brutal job market though, it’s a blessing. I am over 60 years old. Definitely got rejected at a couple of last round interviews due to age but something is better than nothing.

Yep. At 54yo, I’m convinced I won’t get anything and I only get a few call backs for formality. It seems like everyone need numbers to say they interview a few older people.
I am simple man and don’t have access to curated data. But I do belong to a few groups that collectively have about 60 members. And from what I can see, no one over 40 ever got a position that is even close to their previous position. No one over 50 is working office job period.

Cold applying does yield any results anymore. Take a diverse approach. Reduce cold applying and spread 80% of your time networking. Go to professional groups and volunteer, set up calls to actually talk people. You will get your best results when you connect with others second level contacts. Ask your contacts to refer you to their contacts.

The key is to find the unlisted jobs before they get posted. That’s what your competition is doing.

Where do you live? It sounds like when they closed multiple Air Force bases around me when I was younger — you couldn’t even get a job at Burger King unless you had a bachelor’s degree. Keep your chin up, focus on skill building, networking and something will land in your lap.
