Promo Budget Separate from Merit Budget?

Is the rewards budget broken up into separate Promotion and Merit budgets? Was told the Promotion budget is zero for our group this cycle.

@zn So it is a sh---y attitude to semi expect what was already announced? Please explain what expecting what was promised is a bad attitude and why that should mean I should be fired?

@jg if you're a leader, you shouldn't be. Terrible ridiculous question.

@jg Well some people didn't get any sort of raise in H1 as they split it into H1 and H2 raises so I would imagine the people that did not get any sort of raise would still like to see some sort of increase. LR or not, H2 raises were announced so of course people are going to ask about them.

Leader here. May I ask why are you worried about merit increases when we are steps away from LR’s.

Ex-employee who worked at Cisco too long then got a real job. There were times when Cisco had layoffs, even when they were as often as quarterly, and they still did raises. A million dollar outhouse on a spot of dirt in SJ doesn't pay for itself!

Promo and merit budgets are separate.

Back in the day when Cisco did wage freezes they also did dry promotions.

Give up on reason and consistency. These are not the means by which Cisco makes decisions.

@OP Leader here. May I ask why are you worried about merit increases when we are steps away from LR’s. Right now you should focus on how many folks this round will affect if announcements are made after May 13th. We usually hear about budget right around the May 13th time frame. Speaking for my division.

The entire budget is a joke. The promo budget is so small that even if you use it for one person the tool will flag it and not allow the promo bc the percentage increase is too small.

Which date will plp be informed of merit increase? Last cycle (oct/nov) was postponed to most.

Can chime in and say that my and other orgs have now very explicitly told their groups that the budget is a joke.

As for LR, if one is coming up, I'm guessing a Beat will likely be scheduled Monday after earnings. That is speculation.

They are separate and cannot be combined - if a mgr is proposing to promote someone, the money can only come from promotion pool and the candidate cannot have merit. Why this way? Ask HR as they set the rule.

Was told the Promotion budget is zero for our group this cycle.

How big is your group? the money is only distributed down to G13(or above) Director level. Since the Focal budget is from CISCO, it is very unusual a BU is getting ZERO. It is likely your BU's execs decided to use the very small pool centrally for "KEY" promotions, and not distributed down. Therefore, your "Leader" essentially had ZERO in the pocket. However, if you are so good in his/her eye, he/she would propose you up into the pool of consideration.
