The Scene Break-Down
After Ron's co-anchor and rival, Veronica Corningstone, pranks him by changing the teleprompter's closing line, Ron finishes the broadcast by telling the entire city, "Go f* yourself, San Diego"**.

Immediately after the cameras cut, the following exchange takes place with the station manager, Ed Harken:
Ed Harken: "Ron, I've got to fire you."
Ron Burgundy: (Oblivious and mocking) "Ed, I've got to fire you."
Ed Harken: "Do you even know what you just said?"
Ron Burgundy: (Shocked after realizing) "Great Odin's raven! Veronica, she put that in the teleprompter."
Ed Harken: "You're probably right, but I've got to fire you

Humor aside, the Iranian War and economic impact haven't helped the job market or layoff plans. If you want to resign, make absolutely sure you have a new job lined up and they don't rescind it at the last minute. If you are suspecting a layoff (which many are), then prepare asap. Try the YT channel "Life After Layoff". LinkedIn is good for job searches - let them find you and the odds are in your favor. I would also try to see how AI is used these days to ramp up a resume, match skills versus job openings and optimize a custom resume, etc. The job market su-ks.

For younger people in their 20s or 30s not married with children, this may be a good time to pivot into a niche area or hybrid area. For example, a clinical trials coordinator who gets laid off could get a quick allied health degree in surgical tech, radiology tech, nursing, etc. and add that clinical layer of skills to the legacy skills to become a "hybridized and optimized" worker in the face of a struggling economy and AI bo-m.

As for me, I pivoted to finance and am now seen as the "AI guy" on the team since I am very familiar with the statistical models and know how to use Gherkin to generate apps or reports via GitHub Copilot. The manager wants me to give a training presentation. So, I'm on fire lately since I know AI very well. I could have done all that at Medtronic, but they sent my job to India.

I hope the war is truly over and that Strait reopens for good. I recall the fuel crisis of 1979-1980 in childhood and it was horrible. As for war, casualties are inevitable in a ground invasion if it happens, so I hope it doesn't. Since I studied environmental health in one of my master's degrees, no media outlet has mentioned the environmental hazards of the Iranian War. The aftermath can get as bad as Agent Orange was for Vietnam Veterans or toxic burn pits for Iraq Veterans. If you enter questions about it into Google AI Mode, the answers are horrifying. War is he-l. Expect VA Hospital claims to rise from exposure to those hazards in the coming years even if the war is now over (which is questionable).

Non compliance with RTO will be considered a resignation (not terminatation), so they dont even need to wait for a RIF to act on it and they wont pay unemployment or severance.

VPs are asking managers to find ways to cut people. Using RTO and AI are great excuses to RIF people.

Remote status is part of your workday profile, go to Profile - Job - work style -onsite ... for example ... simple logic.

@OP What about documented hired Remote workers. If you live in Florida away from any facilities, is that a nock against you? I have 2 VPs I work with regularly that are remote.

I went into the office for 3 to 4 days a week, and still got laid-off this last round.

A couple thoughts on this:

Managers in Minnesota were given permission to give direct reports some flexibility during the peak ICE presence. So if you’re not hitting it this quarter, you’ll be fine IF your manager has your back. If your manager doesn’t like you, good luck.

And your manager is likely using this threat to get you in the office because they are covering their own butt. By framing it like this, they aren't the bad guy. “Sorry, fam, my hands are tied! I’d love to let you work from home if I could!”

Your manager is a wimp and looking to use the RTO policy to get you in the office. In reality it is a paper tiger. It literally is a report that goes nowhere.
