Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I guess there were layoffs on Monday?

I know a few people who were hit - SRO, and Tech support - but anyone know more? What orgs were hit?

Both were over 50 if that matters...

Three sets of RSUs from 2020-2023 paid out over $800k for me in '24 and since then I have been buying 1000 shares at dips and selling at highs (from the profit) and made another $400k in the last 2 years. Dell RSUs are the best free money ever!

that's RSU's and 401(k) money. Some people actually save money for retirement so that they can retire early, even if it's just a few years earlier.

@bj since RSUs bare capped at maximim 20% of gross - it would take 5 years with YoY RSUs - that I can tell you never happens until VP level.

So in 8 years one ay get equivalent of yearly salary and do 3x on it - for stocks going up - means at best one has 3-yearly salary savings before tax

no retirement money until you 65

@OP I got hit on Wednesday — manager was too much of a wu-s to do it on Monday. Honestly, best thing that’s happened to me. Yeah, the market’s a mess, but do you really have to follow the crowd?

yep, I know many others are ready to call it a career. That will be an issue in some areas of Dell. I know that nobody is irreplaceable...but some are close to that and they're ready to go.

Stock hits my magic # $212 and color me gone. My RSUs are fully vested now and that’s 92% of my retirement bogey.., retirement from Dell… not from good work. Catch you desk sitters on the flip side.

5 from my team. All remote. Not the new hires. Certainly not from India. Not done yet.

No layoffs on my ISG support group, but we had 4 people leave tomorrow for a competitor in the last quarter. Between people leaving, getting I ng assigned to another team, and layoffs we hvw gone from 150+ heads to just 22 since 2019. It's also worth noting that in 2019 we didn't miss a single SLO and now missing SLO has become the norm. If customers stopped opening new tickets today we'd still be extremely busy for the next 1-2 months with what is already in our queue.

so, hearing from alot of folks that are contemplating retiring now that the stock is approaching 200. The stock is high, they've compile massive amounts of RSU's over the years. Dell is laying off folks in their groups and being forced to use AI at a time in their life where it really isn't necessary for them to have to learn anything new. The company culture su-ks and not is worth the effort anymore. Unfortunately, these are folks that the company needs. If they retire, alot of knowledge is leaving and does leave a hole. I guess the high stock comes with it's downside. You may see attrition happening and not via layoffs.

There has been a good bit of shuffling of tech support guys under new managers in Ireland which usually comes prior to a manager going/being "demoted" and/or a bunch of people going. All in the name of keeping certain managers above their magic number.
