Thread regarding 3M layoffs

If in-person collaboration is so important, why do we have so many offshore resources?

I come into the office Mon-Thurs, just to log on to my computer and talk to people in Costa Rica and India.

I don't talk to anyone in the office with me.

Why do I need to be in the office for that?

I just sit and wait for issues to be resolved. I could do it in 5 minutes if they gave me access. Instead I wait. I bring it up in every 1 on 1. Nothing will change. It’s been super annoying but I am learing to deal with it.

The knowledge retention is noticeable. Roles that could complete tasks is gone in some places and tickets don’t suddenly make the replacements gain that knowledge. Many who have knowledge but in new roles conveniently forget their previous knowledge and move on (hard to blame them). On-site collaboration now means teams conversations with other countries and tickets that get closed without resolution. Guess you can’t cut your way to success and mandate RTO to fix what you broke.

We all know why.

Bill doesn't want to grow the business; he wants to drive off enough employees that the balance sheet looks attractive for potential buyers.
