Thread regarding IBM layoffs

You or your career don't matter in any way, shape, or form

Anyone who tells you IBM cares about your career is lying. There's no interest in developing people. None. The only focus is the stock number and the people at the top getting wealthier. Everything else is noise.

@ph because it’s packaged bullsh-t. It’s marketing not true upskilling and truth is internally it’s worthless

@pm the “top performer “ in my group never did full 40 hours. Nobody cares about even the minimum in management

@ph There are far better ways to learn about AI, quantum computing, or any other tech subject than IBM's courses. Non-IBM online courses, even a book and free downloadable software, are much better alternatives. The only reason to waste time on an IBM course is to fulfill your Stink40. Those IBM badges are as useful as the sheriff badge I carried as a kid. But if you like pretending you're the deputy, go for it.

All the negativity about upskilling
Why is that ? Jim Kavanaugh wants a skilled workforce to lead IBM further into AI and Quantum computing

Joanne Wright too. They want to ensure we are set up for success and I’m taking every opportunity I can to increase my skills .

IBM is an iconic company and I’m proud to learn as much as I can

@h6

This weekend, I am skipping an event to lock down more hours. My first line said Band 7 will be mine soon. I am taking a course to master Watson X.

I have 22 badges already and wat at least 30 by the end of the year

They will use you to advance their own career not help your own. Never forget that. IBM is like prison rules. Never ever trust or accept any”free” favors - nothing here comes with no strings attached.

@dm Oh that's awesome to hear. Congrats to you! Plan in missing as many family events as possible to meet unrealistic deadlines , mainly for saying the you made them, regardless of value. Make good friends with your coworkers before they get kicked out, Cheer AK's cr-p like getting 5% RBA is better than getting 8% 401k match,. Keep repeating the latest buzz word so you feel like IBM is actually making something,, knowing full well its a catch phrase of nothing, Then wake up some morning after getting a raving review from your manager of how great you are, only to be told your position has been eliminated. Then you'll really know ho "sick" IBM is.

What are you talking about? Jim Kavanaugh is always encouraging us to upskill. As a band 6 I am over my think 40 hours and on pace to complete over 120 hours.

Plus I am looking towards the Watson X Challenge and to see what can be done there. I have a lot of ideas for Watson X.

My first line is always giving me advice on what new skills to learn. He said that I could be able to show him since he does not have a technical background.
