I've been asking around and stories I've been hearing about messy final paychecks make the exit process sound more stressful than it should be. I'm kind of hoping folks were exaggerating.

You get your last check the Friday of your last week because Dell doesn’t have a lag in pay period like most companies. Take that into consideration when planning finances.
Life after quitting is great, I have a job that pays more and I work with people that get things done. It took about a year to find this job but it’s been a great fit for me so far.
Dell wasn’t the greatest fit for me and as much as I hate to say it just had too much of a “cr--s in a bucket” feel for me. I’m a highly competitive person but I seen some real ugly sides of folks come out while working there. Best of luck but agree with others here that you should not quit if you don’t already have something lined up. Companies are learning to do more with the same these days
I hope you haven't already quit because that's quite literally the WORST and D-MBEST thing you can possibly do - if you don't have a new job lined up already.
If you already quit then, you forfeited your severance, you forfeited getting any state unemployment money, you forfeited most, if not all of your commission check, and you possibly burned a bridge for references.
IF you had another job lined up and you made commission at Dell, and quit before getting that check... good fkn luck getting that commission check lmfao.
Since bonus's have already been paid out, you didn't forfeit that at least but typically you would, had you quit in the next few months (for next year bonus)
Dell, like any company, legally owes you your base salary check, though. As far as I'm aware, there is no time frame as to when they pay it out but, they DO have to pay it.
You are an idi00t if you actually quit, though.
My question is, why tf would you quit? If you had another job lined up then that's one thing but if not... tf were you thinking?
Regardless though, Dell legally owes you that paycheck one way or another and they cannot get out of it. Since you quit, you forfeited your bonus so that's out the window already.
If you get comission, that's a sticky situation but I wouldn't bank on getting the full amount, if you get any at all.
I accepted a job offer at another company and quit last year. It was pretty easy. Submitted a service now ticket, got a box in the email, sent my laptop back.
Nothing else was required. I did get a check about a month later.
If it is important to you, be mindful of insurance start at your new employer. Mine had a 90 day waiting period, so I did a Cobra plan for the first three months.
Got 2 year of severance pay, now living a great life and got a great job at a nice company. Best thing that happened to me after 25 years!
It's fcking great
@OP Best decision I've ever made in my career. I have a better job now with more pay and we're working on some very cool, cutting-edge technology ... unlike maintaining legacy 10 yr old dinosaur products at Dell. Best decision ever to leave that shithole called Dell. Dell will eat you alive if you let it.
I gave a one year notice. They gave me a package and I saved someone else from getting laid off. Everything went smoothly as it could.
@OP depends on how much time you have invested in this h(d)ellhole... 16 years is the target and anything after that is not counted... basically you get 2 years in emea tax free... then you are out and I mean out.... we are a family is bullsh1t
If it isn't a competitor, Dell will have no problem. No settlement. No problem.
@an Got an offer from a startup. I know it's a risk, but so is staying here.
They will love you for quitting. No settlement. Easy.
Are you leaving to go to a competitor, going to somewhere unrelated or just saying "sc--w it", i've had enough?
I'm asking about quitting, not layoffs.
For layoffs, there’s no “messy final paycheck”. They send you a form to sign, typically after you have already left, and then you get the severance within a few weeks in one lump sum. They also send you boxes to ship your hardware back if you were remote. I gave them back the laptop and kept the monitor and dock and all other hardware, they never made a peep about that.
If you’re talking about straight quitting, I have no idea.
Please clarify.
You are asking about you voluntarily quitting?
