Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Why do they do it?

The more micromanaged I am, the more likely I am to make mistakes, and the level of micromanagement is enormous. However, my manager doesn't understand that, or perhaps he enjoys putting pressure on us. He says that he wants to make it easier for us but he does everything to make our work more difficult. I wonder why so much micromanagement.

Micromanaging is a bad thing period. Your supervisor does not trust either you or the process (or both) and wants to control every step. I am going through this now and for my area it’s completely unnecessary. Morning conference call every day, schedule that they want you to work instead of the one which worked fine etc.

Maybe that causes anxiety which leads to poor decision making? I can see what the original poster is wanting to say. At the same time, has this manager always micromanaged or is it just recently? And what does this micromanagement look like? Sometimes managers have to micromanage for a reason. Putting pressure is different than micromanaging. Idk….

Wait... lets read this sentence again.

The more micromanaged I am, the more likely I am to make mistakes, and the level of micromanagement is enormous.

Micromanage is to control every part, however small in direction.

In essence your are being told exactly what to do down to every detail. This causes you to make more mistakes? You have basically typed that you can not follow direction. no matter how detailed.
