Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

A complete massacre at Ansys France

The layoff plan was finalised in France and it’s a massacre that targets mostly engineers and surprisingly not too many corporate functions. Even products that are supposedly in priority has not been spared and people with domain knowledge have been impacted. In my 18 years at Ansys, I have never come across such levels of insincerity and misdirection.

It appears that rather than bothering to divest the Ansys portfolio that isn’t chip related, Synopsys is just ki-ling all those products through layoffs.
A pretty mindless and expensive way to do business. Just another reason to drop this from your portfolio.

Message was cut, it was:
"Regarding severance package, the minimum by law in labor agreement SYNTEC is less of 2 years of seniority:1/4 of salary/year of work; more of 2 years:1/3 of salary/year of work."

As other workers all around the world, mindset in France is mainly feeling of powerless and fatalism, no trash bin will be burned.
63 lay offs are planned for legacy Ansys France. To lay off more than 10 workers, a company has to organize meetings with a work council to prove to a State agency (Dreets) that they did their best to minimize the number of layoffs, and the impact for the laid off. Of course, company representatives have the lead when workers remain passive, but at least it slows down the lay off process during several months.
After some meetings during 2 months with work council, Ansys france send his lay off project to the State agency, 1 week ago, and the State agency will accept or not the lay off project within 2-3 weeks. But for sure it will be accepted. And if not, company can modify what was criticized, and submit another project.
Regarding severance package, the minimum by law in labor agreement SYNTEC is = 2 years:1/3 of salary/year of work.
What Ansys France proposed is rather a total of 1.45 of salary/year of work, including the minimum by law (that is 1.2+0.25 or 1.12+0.33), with a minimum of 15000 euros, and a max of 150000 euros. It is more than the minimum, but because of the "extra legal" package, unemployment insurance will start only after 82 days. So almost 3 months of salary should be subtracted from this money for someone who won't find a job (and unemployment is very high in France).
Layoffs are mainly in AVX products, 23, cloud products, 7, Speos, 5, sales operations, 6, application engineering, 6, Sound, 2, facilities, 2, and many other individual lay off for different positions and products.
Laid off can apply to open positions, but there are few, I think 7 for Ansys France+Synopsys France.
There are also 29 lay offs for Synopsys France, with the same process done by other representatives, but agreement regarding severance package is not the same. It is less I believe.
