Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VSP

Can Dan or Sam offer a VSP already! Heard people were let go last Thursday. Nothing was communicated to our group. We were surprised to hear of anything. On top of that what happened to leadership communicating additional layoffs around the business?

If you do get riffed and accept the severance, you sign a clause that you can’t sue for anything like age discrimination. Went through it in December. The I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed.

Management folks always looking for a handout. Just kidding, that’s what you say about the union folk though. Good Luck.

Dan even said in his first video webcast that the severance package at “Verizon is very generous”. There is no way he is going to offer a VSP when he’s trying to be fiscally responsible.

@ag No there wouldn't. Just like the last one. Only 4400 volunteered, so barely 4%. And the employment market is even worse now.

@b7 Vz already offers 2 weeks per year of service with a minimum of 4 weeks and max of 35 weeks for a normal RIF. As severance goes, Vz is one of the more generous companies.

People here still think VSPs are offered as some sort of act of generosity by the company. There are not. They used to be called "early retirement" packages. The idea is that older people close to retirement, and who would get the maximum payout, would jump. Someone with a couple of years with the company won't get much of a payout, and has little incentive to sign up, unless they already wanted to leave. If they have an involuntary rif that targets older people, that's an age discrimination lawsuit. HR and Legal review the rif lists to make sure there are no demographics that are being disproportionately targeted. So a VSP and a rif are simply two different ways of getting rid of people.

@at in a RIF you will pay unemployment and are at risk of age discrimination and are not guaranteed of cutting high cost employees

Days of VSP are over for the time being. Much cheaper to do an old-fashioned Riff. Zero incentive under this new regime. All Riffs will fall under the 'It's needed for AI capital' umbrella.

@ap what was incentive in the past? What’s different now? They can def get rid of the high $ old timers without fear of lawsuit if they offer vsp now

They're not going to offer another VSP anytime soon. At least not under Dan. They have no incentive to do so.

If this is offered there would be so many people who would want to bolt.
