Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Lowest Raises since COVID.

2%?! WThey are pushing people to leave. We essentially just took a pay cut with inflation.

Wait. Everyone got a 2% raise? I didn’t get one at all. Been here 5 years.

I quiet quit awhile ago, when I was demoted without cause or direct discussion and an expat who can barely speak English, let alone add value to the American Team, was promoted to Director in my Division shortly after without any open interviews for anyone else who was more qualified.

It’s really messed up. But let this weak merit increase be a lesson - there is literally no reason to do anything extra or above expectations for Canon anymore. The times has changed and the good days are over.

@ax I was a high contributor and I got barley over 2%. How are people getting 4%?
There does not seem to be any sort of fairness in the raise percentages.
I got a better raise during Covid as a successful contributor.

I know this is a terrible thing to say, but I’m actively rooting against the company at this point. I want them to continue to lose, and lose badly. They are the Cleveland Browns of major corporations.

Less people, more work piled on for everyone and lower merit percentages...recipe for turnover. I guess that's what they want to keep costs down.

I know people who got promoted and couldn't get outstanding on their performance review. Typically that's what you get to reflect the promotion. Their raise...measly 2%. Seriously? That's how you repay them?

This doesn’t even cover the gas I’d be spending if Sammy calls us back 4 or 5 days a week, lot alone the astronomical amount of additional money I’d have to spend on childcare. I really love my job at Canon and the people I work with, but if we are getting bad raises and will be asked to come back more days, I’m going to have to rethink my career at Canon. It’s Heart breaking that it has to be this way.

With inflation going up and gas hitting all time high. We will have to decide to either put food on the table for our family or cut down and have money to fill in our gas tanks to drive to work. If things get bad I wonder if Canon will follow other countries and private companies to allow their workers to work from home.

High performer and my increase didn’t even keep up with inflation. If leadership is serious about long-term success and hitting 10 billion by 2030, compensation strategy needs to align with retention and performance. Otherwise, they risk undermining the very workforce expected to deliver those results.

They need to keep increases low in order for the big shots to get their big bonus. Modern day slavery!

If senior management would eliminate the swanky steakhouse dinner meetings (yes, I see the expense reports), maybe, just maybe, we could get a bigger increase. Oh, but they really need them to discuss strategy and get deals done.

I certainly hope this post is inaccurate, for HQ. This past year, I worked the hardest ever, put in way more hours on evenings and weekends, traveled a lot, etc. In order to hit goals and targets. If this is true, it's really BAD, and not even keeping up with cost-of-living increases. Another wonderful thank you from the company that I've given you so much, too, too much too!!
