Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

No large scale KTD layoffs this year

It looks like we won’t have large scale KTD layoffs this year. The teams are struggling to keep up and hiring is ongoing. Also, by this time last year conversations were on for layoffs in August but this year its oddly silent

@17p it’s horrible! The majority of their initiatives and program epics I have clicked on are empty or just have the template with no content.

@13n ima be real, I have yet to see product team actually produce a jira ticket with any details. Its insane how bad they are at conveying requirements. And then they get upset responses get delayed cause 90% of the team is offshore.

@13g I don’t get how product team remains safe while engineering team faces so much uncertainty! I see no product work being offshored while they keep removing engineers! Our product su-ks but manages to remain safe

@11n yes they've done this at least twice since I've been here 15 years. We even built an Indian talent hub years ago for exactly this. Always a huge failure, projects increase in cost exponentially, knowledge is lost, more layoffs, more outages, etc. The cost is far more than simply keeping on shore engineers employed.

Jim is a failure.

@zs mangers have absolutely no clue about staffing changes - never have never will. Last year even directors had no clue until the day before. Hence why they're always a huge cluster fu-k and seemingly random. The call comes from people no where near the work.

Things will not get better until Jim and Yael are gone. We've been complete failures under their leadership.

Also hilarious they're demanding AI objectives this year. I'll be using AI to prove we don't need AI. And I'll be sure my agents run up a huge bill running these unnecessary workflows.

@zs I have been without a manager for a 3 months now. We've been shuffled around multiple times and now are part of an effort to offshore work to IBM on a crazy fast pace.

I think they wanted to speed it up but there are already so many issues and confusion with the half assed work by IBM. IBM keeps adding more and more people. A classic antipattern on software projects. It seems like no one understands the basics of software development at kroger any more. Besides these id--ts in management just think AI can do everything....

@yd when do you think they will layoff this year? My manager seems to be overly distant and even cancelling 1:1 so do you think its obvious that layoffs are around corner?

KTD has been hiring but they can't find anyone to fill the roles.. same issue we had precovid which is why we were so relaxed about remote work and dress code.

Anyway, Jim literally said on his stupid call yesterday that everyone will be working the same way and there will be lots of career opportunities. Here come more layoffs

KTD is doing a lot of hiring of FTE's, so it would be very odd to do a mass layoff.
