Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Fuel Costs and WFH

Riddle me this:

Will Fiserv ever have the brains to permit WFH with exorbitant fuel costs that are imminent?

Seriously, we were able to work 2.5 years from home with little issue. For those of us who live further away from the office and still drive in, the cost of commuting makes zero sense during these uncertain times.

All those tax breaks Fiserv gets from New Jersey, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and other states are based on a promise to bring people into the office and boost local economies. During Covid, the states let them slide but those days are over. Tax breaks will always win. Stop bringing up WFH.

All the talk about gratitude to still be employed aside, people are back in offices mainly for two reasons - taxes and sunk costs in already-owned properties. That's not just Fiserv - it's everywhere. Why would a company care if employees spend more money to commute as opposed to WFH? Pffft.

Other reasons (in no particular order).

(1) urging from local city leaders, citing commuting employees' need to spend more money on items (eating out, clothing, vehicle wear and tear, etc). City leaders where I live didn't even try to hide it.
(2) old-school mistrust

Covid is over. Work is for the office. Home is for playing with toddlers and dogs between teams calls

@a9 Please pay $8 in rupees back in India. There is a point to having gratitude, but lowering basic expectations of life being affordable without constant struggle in an abundant technically advanced world is regressive.

OP, maybe you should be laid off next. It will either teach you some emotional intelligence or show you that commuting to a job that pays you isn't that bad after all when you look at how the economy is on its way to he-l and people, like those living in Iran, are living in he-l what with the war and all. Remove this thread.
