Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Join your California coworkers in a Macys strike, demand better!

Macys workers in San Francisco want better pay, better healthcare, better staffing levels, the store continues to strike! These are things that any legitimate company would already provide its employees, nobody, no matter what their job is should have to strike for a living wage and affordable health care. The CEO of Macys should hang his head in shame while he makes multi-millions of dollars a year, what an absolute disgrace he is.

Even if Union Square is a top 5 grossing store in the company, Macy’s won’t cave. It’s all about cost reduction. They’d rather run the store on bare bones and start with brand new people, than give the union members what they want if it means having to spend another nickel. There is no more money unless they slash corporate bonuses which is entirely unlikely. Sad, but true.

The Macys store in San Francisco is a highly productive store, one of the highest volume stores in the company. Closing the store would really hurt the bottom line. Macy’s has no choice but to work with the union. I wonder if they can even attract people to work in the store? The job market is still strong.

Macys wants out of San Francisco bc of the crime/theft, and with the extra headache of strikes and unions, that will justify them closing the store. I give it ) months if that

They may do something in the short term, don't cry when they gut the store and bring new people in sans union or just make something up and close your location.

I don’t know how far they’re going to get. Macy’s is dead set on reducing costs, period. It doesn’t seem like they will budge in these areas. Stores are not making plan. Not to mention, these unions are not very effective. I’m curious to see how this will all play out.

I recently retired from a union macys after 39 years, the union never did anything good for me. I could never understand why people had to pay almost $50 per month in dues just to work for minimum wage. My earnings were consistently being reduced due to all the changes Macys was making. when I spoke to my union rep about this matter all she could say was "Macys is a dying company and you should look for a new job"! well thankyou very much, thats it!!! Now i am enjoying retirement making more money on social security. Good luck with your strike but your union SUCKS!!!!
