Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

221 laid of in Malta per WARN

Does anyone know why they reported it to WARN since under 250 people? I read the WARN regulations and the only way they’d have to is if they are doing another layoff of at least 29 within three months of that layoff. The voluntary retirements don’t count.

the WARN notice is by site in NY not by total number

My guess is that the EFK employees are counting against the total number. Technically GF laid off everyone in that facility and On gave everyone an offer, however, that triggered a Warn notice so the malta layoffs were still in the window of time where they are counted too.

I love the comment where the person pretty much proclaims they “have inside knowledge that state and local politicians are not happy with GF.”

Sure you do…. Sure….

I have wonder this too! I have been tracking it for last few years. # was 15k and now dropped to 14k but it seems like a lot more. And it’s hard to find this number reported in official documents.

Given the mass exodus and people I personally know who left - scaling it up. It should be a lot lower headcount than what I can online.

They're being proactive, The thought now is there'll be enough people quitting and taking early retirement that they will be no need to have more layoffs.

Total number must be under 3000 because that’s what the media reports we have.

I noticed they left the “total number of employees” on-site blank in the Warn notice…

Those laid off are technically employees until March 17th. This leads me to believe there will be a second round soon, within 90 days.

State government and officials are not happy with GF. GF is trying to placate and play way within the lines in attempt to win back some favor. But many state politicians, leaders and organizations feel pretty burnt by the whole dog and pony show that GF has been singing. They feel like they got conned - GF has realized we have burnt many bridges and now we are walking on eggshells as to not rock to boat any further or create more unwanted attention and investigations

It makes no sense to report if you don’t have to unless they are concerned there will be another round in the next three months. East fishkill they may have had to because it’s within three months of the “plant closure” date and Vermont they had to report because it’s over 50

They reported F9’s numbers to Vermont as well, and those were even lower. It’s my understanding the company line is that they reported despite not having to, not that they’re already planning further layoffs. But who knows with this company anymore.

Probably more layoffs within three months.
