Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

To All Those Laid-Off

I know it su-ks to be the one being gutted and left out. I feel for you as I have experienced it myself. As much as it is painful - there is a higher reason for you being chosen. You are being rescued even though it feels like the rug being ripped under you. You will recover and land in a better spot. You have outgrown the version of yourself at Verizon and excel anywhere you go. Sometimes the universe rips off the bandage and places you where you need to be because you are being complacent. I wish all of you much luck, success, and happiness in your post-Verizon life. I know I found in a company that actually values my opinions and work ethic. Peace be with you all especially all trolls that will come here and comment about me being lazy etc. For their information I found a job before my off-payroll date, started a week after and never took unemployment. 🤣

Well said! I had 20+ years of service and was part of the 11/20 group that were let go w/a separation date of 2/20. I was able to land a new role w/better pay and closer to home w/o ever needing to go on unemployment. I feel incredibly fortunate (especially considering the severance that I was able to pocket), but there is a feeling of survivor guilt for my friends/co-workers who are struggling to even get interviews. Keep your heads up, be relentless because good things are coming!

Agreed. I was part of the 11/20 layoff and after 23 years I felt ….. really, really down. I, like you, was able to secure a new role somewhere else and I feel so relieved - the pace and intensity of Verizon was definitely good for my work ethic, and I’m feeling confident even though it’s a new place with all new-to-me people and processes. What is awful is all the other colleagues who (A) got laid off also and can’t secure anything, much less an interview; and (B) those who are still at Verizon and tell me the cut-throat, bus-throwing, uncertainty, upcoming building closures and additional layoffs coming. Verizon employees today are overall more stressed than ever before. I have survivors guilt to a degree. I hope the best for everyone here. Even the trolls. We have to ride this wave supporting each other.
