Imagine if you will......

A company once so loved by its employees that it was the fortune 500's best place to work. Now imagine this company has a manager with the highest level engineers in the company who have worked and sacrificed for this company to be in the highest IC range. Now imagine that manager has to tell 10% of them that they need improvement despite being the absolute best of the best and head and shoulders above every other engineer in the company. Welcome to the twilight zone.

@2dr as was I, but you’re wrong. I specifically stated the year NetApp made it to #1. That was 2009. The very first layoff occurred many years before that right after the dot com bubble burst (circa 2001). And I was there for all of that too.

well that is not accurate. I was there during that time and layoffs were not even thought of.

The real irony of NetApp getting to #1 on the Best Place to Work list was that they held a RIF the day of the announcement. It's been downhill since then.

You shall name it Project 271. AKA silent RIF technique #271.

Let the 20% do all the work, 70% can coast along on the coat tails of the 20%, the CEO can always slot into the 10%.

Your manager is lying to you. The best of the best left long ago. (s)he only has the best of the rest left.

Your managers pet collection will be shrinking soon.
