Has been the biggest joke of my life. And some of these managers are quite literally the slimiest. I can’t wait to see their sappy LinkedIn post when they lose their jobs, it’s coming.

Apparently my previous post was not appealing to the sc-m leaders and was removed. But, just know your day is coming to the excessive and waste of middle and senior pseudo leaders within the KSC. My Department currently has 7 White female supervisors who rotate off every other 4day weekend. Apparently receive "special" treatment from coward And absent Manager. Or perhaps just SOP from Houston cardilab delusional Director. Wishing you nothing but the Worst - exactly what you deserve. Bi##ches!
I cannot agree with the OP more, this place is a bad joke gone wrong. No training, no raise, no opportunity for promotion, little to no bonus, lame management who lost the pulse years ago or just do not care about their employees anymore. Constant layoffs now almost weekly and was even asked if I would stay longer so they could lay me off for another team at a time to be determined, passed and left/retired. Was a complete waste of 15 years coming here. Glad it was at the end of my career as I couldn’t put up with Optum/ UHG one day longer. Gave the 5 minutes notice and walked! See ya as my job got moved to India, so know that was already in the works. If you are still here do everything you can to get out of this now India based company.
@e8 couldn’t agree more. Just more and more work for APCs and no bonuses or raises. Squeezing the most they can out of us.
@ep Not according to Optum lol
@e8 DRE always meant " digital rectal exam" :/
@e4 It’s been a few years. I completely agree with you. At this point, I really don’t care anymore. No matter what the issue is it becomes our fault one way or the other. Field inquiries are waste of time. Quality of scheduling lately has been garbage causing even more issues. DRE has become part of metrics…clearly for a reason, to steal incentive. That’s already unattainable with all the changes. Add looming RIFs into the mix and you have perfect $hitshow.
@dp fellow HC here and feel the same. How many years have you been with HC?
When I first started, it was laidback and metrics were measured but not hammered onto you like they are now. Take PTO, get sick, or cancel a visit for any reason and you’ll be sure to hear about how your metrics weren’t good enough.
@d6 I can’t even begin to recount how many senior leaders, especially women, were made sick by this job, mentally and physically. We’re talking cancer and heart conditions. God only knows why folks stay when their jobs are literally making them sick…maybe sunk cost fallacy, golden handcuffs…and I bet even God doesn’t know what’s up with a so-called health care company treating its employees so terribly that it makes them sick.
I’ll speak for myself working in HC. The job itself is pretty straightforward and redundant. It’s the men made stress, constant uncertainty, and punitive treatment that make this job unbearable. It is paradoxical how something so simple can be turned into never ending dread. The company capitalizes on anything and everything at the cost of its employees.
It’s crazy to see people say they needed medication to work here. I’d be gone. No way it’s worth it. No one on their death bed says “but I made it 4 years with that screamer boss, I really did it.”
I have had incredible managers for most of my career with UHG. Then, came “the one”- the first manager to slam my soul into the floor- who made decisions based on “gut instinct” and admitted it. For 4 long years and many new medications- that manager is gone.
Having been a supervisor, it is THE most stressful position EVER! You are either getting slammed from above you or have people below you who don’t understand how upper leadership works and slam you from below. It is ALWAYS the supervisor’s fault.
@cc THIS! There are SO many “leaders”. Now, how many actually lead anything? That’s questionable
I got laid off a month ago and guess who didn’t? The a-s kissing “director” who did the same exact work I did but got paid 60,000 more than me. I don’t understand how you can have direct reports and actually do 0 in terms of mentorship, perform at the same level of complexity as your direct reports BUT get to keep your job making 60% more salary than you while at it.
@bm Optum is top heavy with "management". Middle and lower management can easily be thinned out. Leads and supervisors don't have enough to do so they micromanage to occupy their time.
I’ve had the worst management in my entire career working at Optum. Associate Directors and above! The Worst in two different divisions. I’ve worked at major top companies. It’s a real joke! Don’t ever work there.
Yep lay offs are coming 3/19!!!!!
I've had the best of managers and the worst of managers at Optum and I've seen both let go from column A and column B.
They are!
