Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Layoffs were slow for now but May is going to be a sla-ghter

Layoffs were minimal and fairly non-existent this month which is not normal considering the previous 5 years. YAY! Well, Mavrick is officially rolling out in May and from what I've heard, a LARGE portion of those NDA workers are scheduled to be let go, along with a hefty amount in ISG/CSG and IT as well.

Obviously I don't know for fact here but, one of my sr directors mentioned this the other day in our 1x1 but pointed out that ISG/CSG and a good portion of MAV folks are planned to be let go. In his own words "it's gonna be bad."

I like how people think the 10% of people who know how things will work in the future will be the ones who are let go. There is a reason we were selected to be part of it...and part of our job has been a two year exercise in answering "can you do this job if the others not under NDA aren't here?"

@1n4 Really? I have been put on PIPs 3 times since 2020. All for the stupidest things. One of was literally for not being in the top 5 performers on the team. The secret to surviving PIPs is to focus only on the goal(s) they gave you and F all other asoects of your job. Milk/manipulate the numbers like crazy if you can. Make it impossible for them to can you fir the reasons they listed.

News flash.... Dell HR and management despises PIPs. Once you put a person on a PIP there are legal requirements come into play. It's cheaper and easier for them just to lay you off with a severance than going through the legal hassles regarding a PIP

@ef youre right at a corporate level, but most decisions happen at direct mgr level, with sr d or vp signing off. if youre a mgr, and you need to produce a list, and you have someone on a pip, and you want to protect your team as much as possible, who are you going to put on your list?

@eg Except the NDA project is failing hard and will inevitably be delayed again. This delay will result in those running the project getting canned.

I don't think I would be worried if you are under NDA, it's those who haven't been for the last 3 years that need to update their resume. There is a reason we were all assigned and you were not. My whole job is literally answering the question of "when the non-NDA people of this group are removed, how should this work?"

@e5 I doubt this very much...

There is quite literally zero incentive or reason for Dell to layoff those on a PIP. PIP's are designed to force you to quit, not help you succeed. If you fail the PIP, you get fired.

Dell is cheap and for each person they lay off, they have to pay out a severance.

Most people on a PIP will end up quitting before the time is up, OR they fail and they are terminated. Both of which does not require Dell to pay out a severance. If you fail a PIP, you are basically just being fired. If you voluntarily quit, severance is not paid out.

Laying off those on PIP's = severances.

There will never be a 10k layoff buddy LOL. At least not anytime in the near future.

@ac
A) Yes, I do. My direct is literally a sr. director. They do have directs believe it or not. You just aren't high enough up the latter to work under one, clearly.
B) I'm only speaking about what I've been told so, we shall see I guess
C) I do love meatloaf

@dt And yet ISG generates double the profit that CSG does..... I think we all know where the real dead weight resides in this company.

So many in ISG openly admit they don't do anything at all during the day. They're just collecting a paycheck until it's all over.
